Eligibility Criteria

  • U.S. citizenship or hold U.S. permanent residency status
  • 18+ years of age
  • Fully admitted Shidler College of Business student in good academic standing
  • Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA
  • Earned 60+ credits for undergrad students. No minimum credit requirement for graduate students.
  • Planned graduation date is Spring 2017 and beyond
  • Hold a valid U.S. passport
  • Strong interest in Japanese culture
  • Understand the objectives of the Kakehashi project and commit to sharing personal experiences and information on Japan’s attractions with friends and family, and through social media and other communication methods while in Japan and upon returning to the U.S.
  • Commit to answering a post-program questionnaire six months after the completion of the program.
  • Meet the requirements of physical and mental condition established by the administrators of the Kakehashi Project
  • Participate in mandatory pre-trip and post-trip meetings scheduled on:
    Monday, October 3 • 4:30 to 6 p.m.
    Monday, October 17 • 4:30 to 6 p.m.  RESCHEDULED TO Noon to 1:30 p.m.
    Monday, November 28 • 4:30 to 6 p.m.
  • Agree to submit post-trip impact report and thank you letter

Applicants who have visited Japan through any other invitation program organized by the Japanese Government or have already had the experience of studying in Japan for a long period may not be eligible to participate. 

Priority will be given to students who have never traveled to Japan.

Prior Japanese language knowledge is helpful, but not required to apply for the Kakehashi Project.
