Hiroki Shibasaki, Ph.D.
Hiroki Shibasaki, Ph.D. is a first-year MBA student at the Shidler College of Business, University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. He received sponsorship from his company, Sompo Japan Insurance Inc. Prior to business school, Hiroki worked at SOMPO Digital Lab, where he was a Deputy Manager, Project Manager. SOMPO Digital Lab is the digital strategy planning department in SOMPO Holdings, Inc. He has experience in collaborating with startups in Silicon Valley, Israel, and other countries. He has worked with venture capital firms on business development, designing proof of concept using technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and dash cams, and leading due diligence for strategic investments. He has a pipeline into the Israeli innovation ecosystem based on his experience of establishing the innovation hub in Tel Aviv, Israel.
He received B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. (Engineering) from the Meiji University in Japan and worked for the Meiji University as a Research Associate. His study is the designing of electrical control systems for actuators. During his tenure as a Ph.D. Student, he had the experience to study at Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) at University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) as a Yoshioka scholarship short-term study abroad student.
