ORAL PRESENTATION GUIDE

The Semifinal event will be held entirely in person. Semifinalists will give a 10-minute presentation to a panel of judges. By entering the UH Venture Competition, participants agree to the following rules and guidelines.

RULES

  • All members of the team must be present.
  • Each team must bring a laptop with a copy of their presentation. Teams are responsible for connecting their laptop to the projector during the breaks. Teams must provide their own adaptor to connect into the A/V system, if their laptops do not have the correct ports. The organizers are not responsible for compatibility issues. Teams must provide their own slide advancer if they wish to use one.
  • Each team will have 10 minutes to present their plan using slides.
  • The UH student(s) must do a majority of the presentation.
  • Presentations should be based on the Oral Presentation Judging Criteria (below).
  • Upon completion of the presentation, the judges will conduct up to 10 minutes of question and answer.
  • Any member of the team may answer the judges’ questions.
  • Members of the audience may not ask questions or otherwise interact with the presenters or judges.
  • Teams may not observe other teams’ presentations.
  • The event is private, and therefore no members of the public will be allowed to attend and view presentations.
  • After all of the presentations are done, the teams will return to the room for verbal feedback from the judges.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • To avoid technical issues, teams are advised to consider carefully whether or not to use video and sound clips.
  • Backup copies of the presentation to a cloud-based platform (ex. Google Drive) for retrieval by other team members, or from the classroom computer, is highly recommended so that another team member may jump in if needed.

SCORING

  • The oral presentation score will be combined with the written plan score.
  • Finalists will be announced on the competition web site.

AGREEMENTS

  • Any data or information discussed in the presentation should be considered information that may enter the public realm.
  • All competitors agree to allow the University of Hawaii and the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE) to record all public sessions of the competition. Entrants understand that recordings may be copied and distributed for the purpose of marketing the competition in future years
  • The judges’ decisions are final, and teams may not make appeals or complaints against the judges, organizers, sponsors, the Shidler College of Business, or the University of Hawai‘i
