ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Tanya Johnson is Chief Operating Officer of Manoa Botanicals, LLC, one of three licensed medical marijuana dispensaries on Oahu. Previously, Tanya spent 15 years in environmental consulting. The first five were spent as an archaeologist and GIS specialist. She quickly gained an interest in the business and operations side of the industry. She spent the subsequent 10 years focused on bringing large scale projects out of litigation, turning around distressed operations, identifying and starting operations in new markets, and building core teams based on individuals’ strengths and improved processes and systems. Tanya’s experience provided opportunities to work throughout the western U.S. and ultimately brought her to Hawaii in 2011, where she spent 3 years overseeing and growing operations in the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, Guam, and Japan. In 2016, Tanya joined Manoa Botanicals to assume responsibility for building the business from the ground up once the license was awarded in April of 2016.

Tanya has enjoyed many jobs prior to her latest professional stint including zookeeper, meat cutter, restaurant manager, nanny, business consultant, and outreach manager. Tanya has two boys and recently became an empty nester as her youngest son graduated from Waialua High this year. She is passionate about causes that encourage and educate small business owners and empower women of all age. She recently completed a year of providing her business consulting and strategic growth skills working with clients at the YWCA Patsy T. Mink Center on Oahu and two years working with community members in Lusaka, Zambia as a part of the non-profit organization Mothers Without Borders. Tanya is also the recipient of the 2017 Professional of the Year award from RUSHWahine, an organization for professional women and entrepreneurs based on Oahu and Maui.
